Role

The role of a contributor or author may be added to any name field. Roles are most commonly used in a contributor field, but may also be used in an author field. Roles may be selected from convenient drop down lists and will be shown in angled brackets. For example:

Kraus, Maureen T. <trans>
Maslow, Abraham <ed>; Sorokin, Pitirim A. <foreword by>

The predefined abbreviations provided in the drop down lists should be used and Ibidem will expand these abbreviations if required by the style you select.

In the case of an organizational author, if the role "org aut" is used, the program will recognize commas as part of the organizational name, not as a separation between the last name and the first name of an individual. For example:

United States, Congress, House of Representatives <org aut>

To enter a role in an author or contributor field:

1Enter the name of the author or contributor or place your cursor after the name of an author or contributor that was entered previously.
2Click the arrow button at the left end of the field or press Ctrl+F3. This will open a list of roles recognized by Ibidem.
3Double click on the role you want to enter. The role will be added to the field in angled brackets.
4.Click the arrow button at the left end of the field or press Ctrl+F3 to close the list.

If you know the abbreviation for a role, you can enter it by typing it in directly using angled brackets as shown in the examples above. You must use the exact abbreviations as they are shown in the drop down list to the left of the author or contributor fields. If the role you want to add is not listed, you can add it by typing the role in angled brackets. In this case, the role will not be expanded by Ibidem.
