The format of the in-text citations and the reference list can be previewed by using the Preview Pane. To hide or display it, click View, Preview Pane. For general information about the Preview Pane, see Preview Pane.
There are two ways to scroll through the available styles, displaying a given work in each style:
Method One: Tools, Preview Format
| 1 | Open your bibliographic database and click to select work that you would like to preview in different styles. |
| 2 | Click Tools, Preview Format. This will open a dialog that allows you to review the styles. |
| 3 | The format for footnotes or endnotes will be displayed at the top of the dialog and the format for the bibliography or reference list will be displayed at the bottom. Use the up or down arrow on your keyboard to scroll through the options. |
Method Two: View styles in the Preview Pane
| 1 | Open your bibliographic database and click to select work that you would like to preview in different styles. Make sure that the Preview Pane is displayed. |
| 2 | Right-click anywhere in the Preview Pane and choose Style. This will open a dialog that allows you to review the styles. |
| 3 | If you know the style you want, you can select it using the drop down list for either in-text citation style or reference list style. |
| 4 | If you want to preview all of the in-text citations styles, click twice in the In-Text Format box so that the current style is highlighted (the first click opens the drop down list, the second closes the list but leaves the current style highlighted). Then press the up or down arrow on your keyboard to scroll through all of the styles. You can do the same in the Reference List Format box to see the reference list styles. |
Note that changing the style in the Preview Pane and/or in the Preview Format dialog does not change the style in any documents that may be open. To change the style in an open document, use the Set Reference Style dialog.
