Paste and Paste Special

As in any Windows program, text that has been cut or copied to the clipboard from Nota Bene or from another Windows program can be pasted into Nota Bene by pressing Ctrl+V or by clicking Edit, Paste. For information on copying to the clipboard and then pasting, see Copy Text. For information on cutting to the clipboard and then pasting, see Move Text.

Paste Special is a function that allows the user to control how formatted text is brought into a Nota Bene document.  When pasting into a Nota Bene document in the usual fashion (Ctrl+V or Edit, Paste), the text will be pasted with formatting. However, you may prefer  to paste plain text without the formatting. Using Paste Special will bring up a dialog before the text is entered into the document.

To use Paste Special:

1 Copy (Ctrl+C or Edit, Copy) or Cut (Ctrl+X or Edit, Cut) the source material onto the Clipboard.
2 Switch to the Nota Bene Document you want to insert the text into and place your cursor where you want the text to be inserted.
3 Press Ctrl+Shift+V or Edit, Paste Special. The Paste Special dialog will appear on your screen.
4 Options for the text to be pasted will be presented. A description will be shown for the option selected. If you want to paste text without formatting, you can accept the default option to paste Unformatted Text and click OK.

If you always or usually would like to paste text without any formatting associated with it, you can change the way text is copied/cut to the clipboard or the way text is pasted from the clipboard so that the formatting is not included. To do this, click Tools, Preferences and double-click on Clipboard.

Paste Special can be used to delete all of the commands in a document. Select the text (Ctrl+A to select the whole document), press Ctrl+X to cut it and copy it to the clipboard. Then use Paste Special to insert the text as plain text with no embedded commands. Note that all embedded commands (all commands that you can see in Codes View) will be removed, including footnotes, cross references, etc. Use Regularize Document to remove only specified kinds of commands.
