A diagram showing the active keyboard can be displayed by clicking Tools, Lingua, Keyboard Diagram or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+K. Smart characters are shown in red (see Smart characters). If a keyboard is loaded that has an accent assigned to a key (e.g. the Danish keyboard), the accents will be shown in purple. A version of the same diagram can be opened as a dialog bar that stays open as you work on the right side of your screen. To open this dialog, click Alt+K. For more information, see Keyboard Dialog Bar.
The keyboard diagram can be printed by clicking the printer button on the right side of the dialog.
Your Windows screens can be arranged so that you can see the keyboard diagram while you are typing. If your Nota Bene screen is maximized (i.e., it takes up the full screen), the keyboard diagram will automatically disappear when you start typing in Nota Bene. If you reduce the size of the Nota Bene screen, you can open the keyboard diagram and arrange the Nota Bene screen and the keyboard diagram so that both are visible. The following instructions use standard Windows controls:
| 1 | Reduce the size of your Nota Bene screen: There are three small square buttons that appear at the top right corner of every Windows screen on the top colored bar that identifies the program. If your Nota Bene screen is maximized, the middle button will have two overlapping squares in it. Click this button. If this button has an image of one square rather than two overlapping squares, then the screen is not maximized and you can skip to step 2. Your Nota Bene screen should now take up part but not all of your total screen area. |
| 2 | Open the keyboard diagram: Press Ctrl+Shift+K. |
| 3 | Move the keyboard diagram to the bottom of your screen. Move the pointer to the colored bar marked "Keyboard diagram" at the top of the keyboard diagram. Hold down the mouse button while you move the keyboard diagram to the bottom of your screen. The entire keyboard diagram should be visible with the bottom edge of the diagram at the bottom of your screen. |
| 4 | Adjust the Nota Bene screen so that it takes up the top half of your screen. |
| • | Move the pointer to the top colored bar on the Nota Bene screen. Click on the colored bar and hold down the mouse button while you move the Nota Bene screen to the top left corner of your screen. The entire Nota Bene screen should still be visible with the NB on the left side of the top colored bar visible at the top left corner of your screen. |
| • | Move the pointer to the right border of the Nota Bene screen until it assumes the shape of a double arrow. Hold down the mouse button while you move the right border of the Nota Bene screen to the right edge of your screen so that the Nota Bene screen takes up the full available width of the screen. |
| • | Move the pointer to the bottom border of the Nota Bene screen until it assumes the shape of a double arrow. Hold down the mouse button while you move the bottom border of the Nota Bene screen to the top edge of the keyboard diagram. |
| 5 | Make any final adjustments so that both the Nota Bene screen and the keyboard diagram are visible and conveniently positioned. You should now be able to type in Nota Bene with the keyboard diagram visible. If you select a new language, the change will automatically be reflected in the keyboard diagram. |
