Importing a Graphic: IG command

The IG (Import Graphic) command allows you to merge a bitmap (BMP) file into your document. Graphics may also be cropped or scaled to fit in your document. When you switch to graphic view, the data from the imported file is merged in memory with the data from the document. A much wider range of graphic capabilities is available by using Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), but this cannot be implemented from the action line. For more information, see OLE and Frames Overview.

To import a BMP file:

1Move the cursor to where you want the graphic to appear.
2Press F9 to access the action line
3Type ig c:\folder\filename.bmp
4Press F10 to import the graphic.

A format delta will appear on screen. If you want to view the graphic, switch to graphic mode with Shift+F5.

You may add any or all of the following optional commands, separating them with commas. For example:

 ig c:\folder\filename.bmp,CR=XxY WxD,SC=XxY,RV=n)

The following are the optional commands:

CR=XxY WxD is the cropped size of the graphic. See Cropping a Graphic.
SC=XxY is the scaling factor by which you reduce or enlarge the graphic. See Scaling A Graphic.
DE=d is the depth of the graphic. A depth of 0 will allow you to print text over the graphic. In this case, the image will not appear in Graphic View.
IM=type is the image type, either L for line art (the default) or G for gray tone or textured art.
RV=n allows you to reverse the color imaging scheme. O is the original color and 1 reverses it.

NB:

It may be necessary to include the path if the BMP file is located on other drives or other directories.
If you do not want the graphic to display when you call the file to screen, use the following command:
call/f filename
The IG command can be used to import a printer-ready file by specifying PRF as the file type (TY=).
