Outline View |
|
Outline View is used with a document framework in place to view the framework or outline in as much or as little detail as you want. The outline can be expanded or contracted to display only one level or all levels. If the framework includes body text, it can be displayed or not displayed, or restricted to the first line only. You can choose a restricted display globally and then display a portion of the framework in greater detail locally. In short, controls are available to let you view as much or as little of your document as you want. You can edit your document in outline view, but you cannot print your document from Outline View (see Printing an Outline).
Outline view can be used by clicking the Outline View button at the bottom of the main Nota Bene screen, by clicking View, Outline or by pressing Shift+F7. To return to Page Layout view, click the Page Layout view button (a blue A) or click View, Page Layout or press Shift+F5.
Global settings: Within Outline view, the framework tool bar is expanded. The buttons on the tool bar can be identified by moving the cursor to the button and pausing until a label identifying the button appears. As in Page Layout view, four yellow arrows are used to move, promote or demote outline components. The next three buttons showing a series of black lines are used to show headings only, the first line of the body text or all of the body text. The button showing a closing book is used to close all local text. The buttons numbered 1 through 9 are used to show only one level or up to 9 levels of the outline. The buttons following the four yellow arrows change the display globally (i.e. the impact on a level 2 framework component at the end of the document is the same as the impact on a level 2 framework component at the beginning of the document). The same controls are available by clicking View, Outline Settings.
Local settings: The display can also be changed locally. For example, you may want to show only one level of headings throughout the document, but expand the display of the framework in one part of the document. In the main window of Outline view, there are yellow pages to the left of each heading and there are plus or minus signs in small boxes. To make local changes to the display, use these controls as follows:
