Edit Frame/Graphic Dialog

The Edit Frame/Graphic Dialog has six tabs that allow you to adjust the frame and/or the object within the frame. Note that many adjustments can be made very easily by editing frames/graphics in place. To open the Edit Frame/Graphic dialog, click in the image or the frame and then click the Edit icon at at the left end of the green bar that is above the frame/graphic.

Each of the six tabs on the right side of the dialog provides different editing options. The first four tabs control frame properties; the last two contain embedded graphics properties. On some of the tabs, there is a blue circle with the letter i. Click on this icon for tips and information.

Position/Size: Use the first tab to change the position, size, or scale of the frame and the graphic it contains. Changes made to this tab affect both the frame and the graphic. If you want to adjust the graphic and the frame separately, use the Transform tab.

Position: Click on the Position bar at the top to set the position of the frame on the page. The Frame Position dialog will open and you can adjust the following settings:
Choose whether or not the position of the frame should vary depending on whether it falls on and odd or an even page.
Select the horizontal position and the vertical position for the frame.
Click OK to accept the settings you have selected, or Cancel to accept previous settings.
Size or Scale: Use the second half of this tab to set the size of the frame/graphic.

Borders: When a frame is inserted, the borders of the frame are solid black lines. You can change the thickness of the lines, or you can eliminate any visible borders. Check the Identical box to make the borders on all 4 sides identical. Uncheck this box to make separate selections for top, bottom, right and left. If you are increasing the thickness of the lines, any increased thickness will be added to the inside of the edges of the frame. Eliminating the borders does not eliminate the frame. The frame will still be in place and its position will determine how text wraps around the graphic.

Insert/Gutters: Use the third tab to change the inset and the gutters. The inset is the space between the edge of the frame and the surrounding text. The size of the inset will determine how much white space there is separating the edge of the frame from the text that wraps around the frame. The gutter is the space between the image and the edge of the frame. If you set this to zero, any borders will be at the edge of the image.

Background: The background tab can be used to add color to the area inside the frame. If the frame contains a graphic image, the background color will be shown in the gutters. If the frame contains text, the color selected would be shown as the background color or fill color for the frame. To add color, select Color (rather than None) in the drop down list. Then click the Color button and choose a color.

Transform: Use this tab to resize the image separately from the frame, or to rotate, flip or crop an image. You will see the effects of the changes as you make them. Click the Revert Changes button at the bottom if you want to undo all of the changes that you have just made.

Resize: The image size is normally set by the frame size, and the first tab is used to resize the frame and image together. You can however, resize the image separately, e.g. make the image smaller than the frame.
Click the Resize Frame button to go to the Position/Size tab and resize the frame and image together.
Click the Size Frame and Image Separately button to size the image separately. This activates controls that allow you to either (a) change dimensions, or (b) change percentage, or (c) click on the image and then on the gray handles to resize the image by dragging as described in the dialog.
Crop: The dialog provides instructions for cropping the image. This can be done without opening the Edit/Frame Dialog.
Flip/Reverse: Click one of the three boxes to flip the image horizontally or vertically or to reverse colors.
Rotate: Click one of the blue arrows to rotate by 90, 180 or 270 degrees or to return to 0 degrees. Type a number into the center box to rotate by some other amount.

.

Adjust: A variety of tools are available to adjust the color balance and contrast of your graphic image. Use the slider controls on each of the 16 items that can be adjusted. You will see the effects of the changes as you make them. Click the Revert Changes button at the bottom if you want to undo all of the changes that you have just made.
