Dynamic Off/On

Since bibliographic citations are controlled by Ibidem, the text of the citation generally should not be edited directly. See Editing Citations for information about how to edit citations that have been generated by Ibidem. Turning the dynamic link to Ibidem off should be a last resort, used only if you are not able to edit your citations in other ways. However, if you need to make a change in your citation manually, the dynamic feature can be turned off.

Turning the dynamic setting off for an individual citation does the following:

It turns the citation green so that you can see that it is a non-dynamic citation.
It allows you to manually edit the citation.
In a citation with multiple cites, it only affects the individual cite[s] which you have marked as non-dynamic, not the citation as a whole.
It will no longer update automatically when you choose the option to Update Dynamic.
It will not update based on any changes you make to the source record.
It will not convert to a different bibliographic style
But it will update if you choose the Update All option. Choosing Update All will change the citation back to a blue dynamic citation.

To turn off the dynamic setting for an individual citation.

1 Place your cursor on the blue citation and right-click. A menu will appear on your screen.
2Click to uncheck Dynamic Citation.

The citation will then display in green and the text may be edited as you would edit any other text. If you subsequently decide that you want to have the program control the citation, the process may be reversed. Place your cursor on the green citation, right-click, and click to check Dynamic Citation.

WARNING: If you edit a citation and then turn the Dynamic setting back on, then the next time you update the dynamic citations (by pressing Alt+F7), any editing you have done to the citation will be deleted. The Update All feature will also permanently remove the editing that you have done and return all citations in the document to the control of Ibidem. For more information, see Updating Citations.
