A manuscript control file lists all of the files to be included in the manuscript and specifies certain properties of the individual files such as whether or not end notes are to be suppressed (so that they can be inserted at the end of the entire manuscript). The manuscript control file has the extension .MSC.
To create a manuscript control file:
| 1 | Click File, Manuscript Files. The Manuscript Files dialog will open. |
| 2 | Click the radio button to Create Manuscript Control File |
| 3 | In the Filename box, fill in a filename for your manuscript file, with no extension. The .msc extension will be added automatically. In most cases it is best to accept the default setting for the location of the manuscript file, but if you prefer to save your manuscript control file in a different folder, you can fill in a different location, or click the browse button to the right of the Location field to browse to a different folder. |
| 5 | In the Open File dialog, use the diagram of folders on the left to to the files you wish to include in your manuscript file. Once the folder is selected on the left, the files will be displayed on the right side of the dialog. Double click on the files to include in your manuscript file. |
| 6 | Files can be deleted from the list by clicking to highlight the file and then clicking the "Remove File from List" button on the right edge of the dialog (a button with a scissors). The order of files to be included can be changed by highlighting one of the files and clicking the arrow buttons on the right edge of the dialog to move the highlighted file up or down in the list. |
| 7 | Click OK after selecting files and making sure that they are in the correct order. |
After creating a manuscript control file, you can use the Manuscript Files dialog to review the properties of the component files that are specified in the management control file, or to open the manuscript text file for editing. You can also add or remove files from the management control file at any time.
