Manuscript Control File Properties

In addition to a list of files to be included in the manuscript, the management control file (.MSC file) includes the following information about the component files:

Should the component file always begin on a new page?
Should end notes that are part of the component file be suppressed so that all end notes can be printed at the end of the manuscript?
Should any reference list that is part of the component file be suppressed so that one reference list for the entire manuscript can be compiled?

These properties can be changed for each component file:

1Click File, Manuscript Files. The Manuscript Files dialog will open.
2Click the radio button to Edit Existing Manuscript File. Type in the location and filename of the manuscript control file or browse to select the file.
3Click the radio button to Set Properties for Individual Files in Manuscript Control File.
4Click OK. The Open File dialog will appear on your screen.
5The list of component files will be on the bottom half of the dialog under the columns headed Filename, Endnotes, and References.
To force a component (chapter) file to begin on a new page, click to check the box to the left of the file name. NOTE: If a chapter ends with endnotes, the following file always begins on a new page, regardless of whether the box is checked or not.
To suppress the endnotes or reference list for a chapter so that so that they will all be collected and printed at the end of the entire manuscript, click to highlight a component file, and click Edit. From the Endnotes and References dropdown lists, select either Suppress or Retain. To collect all notes and bibliographic references at the end of the manuscript, suppress both options for all component files except the final file.
6Click OK on the Open File dialog and OK on the Manuscript Files dialog.
