Working with Snaking Columns

Once you have set up snaking columns in your document, the following adjustments can be made.

Enter text:  Place your cursor in the first column and type in the text you wish to enter.  Text will automatically wrap to the second and subsequent columns.

Change settings:  The settings that were established when the columns were created can be changed at any time. Place your cursor anywhere in one of the columns.  Click Format, Snaking Columns, Edit.  Use the Snaking Columns dialog to adjust the number of columns, column widths, border or gutters.  See Snaking columns.

Return to text with no columns: Place your cursor after the last word that you want to appear in columns.  Click Format, Snaking Columns, End.

Break column: To force the text that follows to advance to the top of the next column, press Alt+Shift+Enter or click Format, Snaking Columns, Column Break.  This feature can be used to make shorter columns on the last page rather than having, for example, all of the text in the first column, with no text in the second column.
