Draft View

This view shows your document in draft mode and not as the file will appear when printed. The benefits of using this view are that you can see more text, and that you have different options for seeing and managing commands.

To access this mode, click View and then Draft, or click on the Draft View button (a pencil with an A), or press Shift+F9. You can select one standard font to use in draft view, or you can display the actual fonts used in the document. If already in draft view, Shift+F9 toggles to the alternative font view (standard font vs. actual fonts). When going to draft view from some other view, the last font view is remembered.

The following are features of this view:

All margins are suppressed.
Other top and bottom of page elements (headers/footers, footnotes) are suppressed.
All text is shown single spaced, regardless of the settings in the file.
Text is always shown non-justified.
Lines break at screen width (whether that is narrower than the normal page, or wider).
Font face and size can be suppressed, at your option.
True fonts (type face and size) can be retained.
System font (single typeface, and specified size) can be used for all text.
This system font is configurable (Tools, Preferences, Document Views).
The zoom feature is not active in this view.

Commands can be shown or hidden in this view. Press Shift+F4 to display commands if they are hidden, or to hide them if they are displayed. Press Shift+F3 to cycle between the following command-display options:

Commands shown as colored boxes with short mnemonics, usually two characters. (This is the default setting.)
Commands shown as colored boxes with short descriptions, usually a word or two.
Command markers are not displayed.
Commands are shown as a green arrow in a gray box; commands are not identified.

Default settings for Draft View can be changed by using the Document Views dialog. Click Tools, Preferences, Document Views.
