Opening a File for Reading: READ command

Nota Bene gives you the option of opening a file for reading only. When you open (or call) a file for reading, you may scroll through the file, select and save blocks of text, and copy selected blocks to another file. You cannot add, delete, or move text in the displayed file. This option protects a file from being accidentally edited and also allows you, in a network environment, to view a file that is already open on another terminal.

To open a file for reading only:

1Press F9 to access the action line.
2Type read d:\path\filename where d:\path\filename is the drive, folder and name of the file you wish to open. If the drive and path are omitted, Nota Bene will look to your default drive and current path.
3Press F10 to open the read-only file.

To open a file for reading only from a directory:

1Press F9 to access the action line.
2Type dir to access a directory of the current directory on the current drive or type dir d:\path to access a directory of a specific directory on a specific drive.
