Nota Bene provides numerous keyboard shortcuts that provide fast keyboard control. The functions listed below can also be controlled by the menus, buttons, and/or action line. Use of the F keys requires that the F keys on your computer are set to be used as function keys. See Function Keys.

| F3 | Open (or close) drop down list to the right of the active Ibidem field (authority list for author, keyword, etc.) |
| F7 | From Nota Bene screen, open Ibidem |
| F9 | From Ibidem, return to Nota Bene document |
| Ctrl+A | Select entire field |
| Ctrl+E | Display entire database (after searching or after opening a subset) |
| Ctrl+F | Open the search/find pane for a keys/fast search |
| Ctrl+G | Go to Subset (then use keyboard arrows to scroll through subsets) |
| Ctrl+K | Opens Links in Active Record dialog |
| Ctrl+L | Open search/find pane for on-line library search (available only if Archiva is installed) |
| Ctrl+N | Create new record in the open Ibidem database |
| Ctrl+P | Close current search or subset pane |
| Ctrl+Q | Moves cursor to Quick Search Bar |
| Ctrl+R | Retrieves or updates ISBN numbers for active record (find on web) |
| Ctrl+T | Open the search pane for a text search |
| Ctrl+Z | Undo most recently entered text |
| Ctrl+F1 | Display FieldTip for active field (if auto FieldTips is not on) |
| Ctrl+F3 | Open (or close) drop down list to the left of the active Ibidem field (e.g., role for author field) |
| Ctrl+F6 | Go to next search pane |
| Ctrl+F7 | From Nota Bene screen, open Popup Ibidem |
| Ctrl+Ins | Insert page number in Note-Taking File. |
| Shift+Ins | New Template (then use keyboard arrows to scroll through templates) |
| Alt+A | Opens Archiva (from Ibidem screen) |
| Alt+D | Show or hide the database pane |
| Alt+H | Show or hide field help for active field |
| Alt+K | Show or hide the links pane |
| Alt+M | Maximize the database pane |
| Alt+N | Dock/undock last slide-out pane |
| Alt+O | Show or hide the cite options pane |
| Alt+P | Show or hide the preview pane |
| Alt+Q | Show or hide the search/query pane |
| Alt+R | Show or hide the record pane |
| Alt+U | Show or hide the subset pane |
| Alt+Z | Maximize the record pane |
| Alt+F1 | Allow Auto Casing (this reverses Case as Typed) |
