Ibid Plus Overview

IbidPlus expands the functionality of Ibidem so that it can be used for non-bibliographic databases. All of the features in Ibidem that are relevant to non-bibliographic databases are used in IbidPlus. Information entered into an IbidPlus database is stored in Ibidem fields, each of which holds a specific type of information. IbidPlus databases can be sorted with the click of a mouse and you can choose and vary the sort rules. Records can easily be found by searching for any word or phrase within a given field, or more generally in all fields. Boolean search operators can be used for more complex searches. Reports can be generated and printed in exactly the same way as a bibliography would be generated and printed in Ibidem.

Two predefined formats provide fields that are appropriate for addresses and for field notes. The fields can be customized as can the standard data entry templates. You can also customize fields shown in table view, index keys (fields available for fast search), sort rules and search groups just as you would for an Ibidem bibliographic database. Customizing reports in IbidPlus is just like customizing bibliographies in Ibidem. If you are working with a non-bibliographic database in Ibidem, IbidPlus will automatically use the word "report" in the menus where "bibliography" is used for bibliographic databases. IbidPlus also automatically adjusts the dialogs and standard report formats so that they are appropriate for Address Lists or Fieldnotes. If you are working with a non-bibliographic database, and you click Edit, Custom Formats, Ibidem will give you the choice of Report or Subject Report. In a bibliographic database, clicking Edit, Custom Formats will give you the choice of Bibliography or Subject Bibliography. Otherwise, the process for creating custom reports (or bibliographies) is the same.

If you are not familiar with Ibidem, it is recommended that you review the Ibidem tutorial including the overview and exercises 1 through 4. Exercises 5 through 7 relate to inserting and formating citations in your document and are not relevant to non-bibliographic databases.
