Hyphenation Default Settings

When Nota Bene is delivered to you, auto hyphenation is not active. You can change the default setting so that auto hyphenation will be active for all documents, unless the default setting is overridden by a command issued for an individual document (an embedded HY command would override the default setting). An open document will not be affected until it is closed and reopened.

To change hyphenation default settings or preferences:

1Click Tools, Preferences.
2The Preferences dialog will appear on your screen. Scroll down and click to highlight Hyphenation and then click the Set button.
3The Hyphenation Defaults dialog will appear on your screen. Make the following selections, or leave the default settings in place.
Click to check or clear the box marked Hyphenation ON. With this box checked, auto hyphenation will be active.
Click to check or clear the box marked Hyphenate words with hard hyphens. Clear this box if you do not want words with hard hyphens to break anywhere other than at the hard hyphen.
Change the minimum number of characters for a word to be hyphenated. Shorter words will not be hyphenated even if auto hyphenation is active.
Change the minimum number of characters before the hyphen.
Change the minimum number of characters after the hyphen.

4Click OK to implement the changes or Cancel to ignore any changes. The Preferences dialog will reappear.
5Click Close.
