Compose Key: Arabic

The Lingua module provides support for Arabic. If you have purchased Nota Bene, but not Lingua, you can purchase the Lingua module by going to our on-line order form and logging in as a current customer.

If you have purchased and installed Arabic, the compose key (F6) can be used to add vowels or other modifiers. To use the compose key with Arabic, type a Arabic letter, then press F6.  The F6 pop-up screen will appear.  Find the letter with the diacritical marks that you want and double click on the character or type the letter in the small yellow box corresponding to the character that you want to enter.  If you are not familiar with the general use of the F6 key, read Compose Key (F6).  For instructions on how to type in Arabic, see Arabic.

Vowels are displayed on the F6 pop-up screen in the regular position.  (If you have not installed Urdu, the rightmost accent on the top row will display as a large dot.)

The Alt key enables input of a variety of different characters, including:

The special Forced Forms and Zero-Width Modifiers discussed under Character Forms above
Some special symbols
Some superscripted versions of some of the base characters

The Arabic section of the Lingua Character Inventory provides a mirror of the F6 pop-up screens. See Character Inventory (Arabic).
