Archiva: Legal Limitations

All access to the web sites which contain data in a format which Archiva recognizes is entirely your responsibility, and not Nota Bene's.  Archiva does not promise, guarantee, or otherwise provide access to any source which you do not already, independently of Archiva, have access.

To begin with, you will discover that while some of the sites which contain data in a format which Archiva recognizes are--or at least were, at the time Archiva was first released--accessible without fee, others may charge for such access. Payment of such fees is entirely your responsibility.

Further, the various sites may require you to enter into legal agreements that control how material on the site is used. Obtaining, and abiding by, these license agreements is entirely your responsibility.

This needs to be emphasized again: It is extremely important that you abide by whatever legal agreements you have entered into as a condition of using these research sites.  In particular:

All such use must be within that permitted by the site, or governed by the principle of fair use, both of which are your responsibility.
Nothing in Archiva gives you rights to use the material you retrieve which you do not otherwise have independently of Archiva.

In short, if you are legally authorized to do so, you can search the web and include records relevant to your research into your Ibidem database(s).

If such use is permitted, either by the license associated with the site, or by the principle of fair use,  you can then capture the bibliographic information from sites for use in your own scholarly work.
