Two of the most useful and powerful parts of Scholar’s Workstation and Lingua Workstation are Orbis and Ibidem.
Orbis is a multi-file search and text-retrieval program that can search all your note-taking files, papers, and other documents and instantly find what you need as you are writing (no need to remember file names).
Ibidem is a bibliographic database that will store all of your bibliographic data (title, author, publisher, etc.) and generate properly formatted citations and bibliographies as you write.
The Orbis and Ibidem tutorials include a general overview and a series of exercises that demonstrate how to use the programs. Numerous screen shots help to visualize the many benefits of these powerful programs.
The files on this page are PDF versions of the printable tutorial files that come with the program. To display them, you will need to have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.
If you already have Scholar’s Workstation 8.0, Lingua Workstation 8.0 or the Nota Bene Trial version 8.0, there is no need to download these tutorials. They are available from the Help menu of the main Orbis or Ibidem screens (click Tools, and then Orbis or Ibidem, and then click Help, Tutorial).
Click the links below to open and/or download these tutorials.
If you have Adobe Acrobat already installed, and files of type PDF are linked to Acrobat:
-- To open the file in Acrobat immediately, without exiting your browser, click on the link (you can subsequently save the file to your system from within Acrobat by clicking on the File Save icon on the Acrobat toolbar displayed in the browser [note that you cannot use the Browser’s File, Save option--this will be grayed out])
-- To save the file directly to your own computer, right click on the link, and then select the Save Target As... option
If Acrobat is installed, but it is not linked to files of type PDF, clicking the link will download the file directly to your computer. Remember the folder you designate for the files to be saved in, and then use Windows Explorer or My Computer to find the file and double-click to open it.
